On Saturday 19 September, Macquarie University once again transforms into a playground of cosmic wonder for Astronomy Open Night 2026. Mark your calendar and get ready for a night of discovery, exploration, and wonder for all ages.

Take a journey from the edge of Earth’s atmosphere to the far reaches of the universe. This year introduces fresh highlights, including The Big Cosmic Q&A, where you can put your questions to our experts, and a special session for students planning their next steps after high school: So, You Like Science – What Now? You can also experience our new experimental short film festival, Stories Across Worlds, featuring works from the Archival Futures Collective.

We’re bringing back your favourites: the Physics Magic Show, the Cosmic Arcade, our immersive VR Solar System experience, and short talks from Macquarie researchers.

At the Telescope Park, explore the night sky with guidance from Macquarie astronomers and volunteers. Visit distant galaxies in our planetarium sessions or perhaps take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Astronomical Observatory.

Food and drinks will be available throughout the evening from a range of University vendors.

All this and more awaits at Astronomy Open Night 2026 — we can’t wait to welcome you.

Tickets go on sale in July.
